This course is a graduation requirement. It is strongly recommended for the 10th grade but may be taken in 11th or 12th. Students will take an integrated approach to health issues, with emphasis on the California state standards for Health Science: Accepting personal responsibility for health, respecting and promoting the health of others, understanding the process of growth and development, using health-related information, products and services wisely. Current scientific information is presented in an active format throughout all units of study, including nutrition, fitness, prevention and treatment of disease, injury prevention and safety, substance abuse, mental health and healthy relationships. The course includes Red Cross CPR and First Aid instruction and certification.

ROP CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT/HEALTH CAREERS

5 credits 1 period on campus
5 credits clinical training. In addition 100 required hours will be scheduled at a local skilled nursing facility.
Prerequisites: Age 16 - A physical exam within 6 months of the beginning of the class is required.

The intent of the Certified Nursing Assistant course is to promote quality patient care, to provide entry-level skills for employment as a nursing assistant, to provide awareness of opportunities/choices in health care occupations. The Certified Nursing Assistant program includes theory (on campus) and clinical practice (at health-care facility). Students will qualify to take California CNA exam and become certified. Health Careers contains some of the same content, but students are placed in internships with health care providers.
