NOTE: A one semester course meeting 4/5 periods/week for 18 weeks carries 5 semester credits.
A one year course meeting 4/5 periods/week for 36 weeks carries 10 semester credits.
CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL EXIT EXAM (CAHSEE): All students must pass the CAHSEE to receive a diploma. The purpose of the requirement, authorized by state law, is to promote achievement and ensure that graduates meet rigorous state standards in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Students will have opportunities each year to retake that part of the exam not passed. The district will provide additional instruction for students who need it, including summer school programs. Check the website below for further information on Special Education accommodations. For more information, contact the Davis Joint Unified School District, Educational Services Office at 757-5300, ext. 144 or check the California Department of Education website at: http://www.cde.ca.gov
GRADUATION DEFICIENCIES: It is school policy to allow seniors who have completed at least 220 of the 230 credits required, at the date of graduation, to participate in the formal graduation ceremonies. Diplomas for these students are held in the Counseling Office until requirements have been completed.
Such students must plan to attend classes during summer session or the following fall semester of school (either high school or community college) to complete their graduation requirements. NOTE: If work is not completed by the end of the semester following graduation, a diploma from Davis Senior High School will not be issued.
Students who choose alternative programs (DSIS or King) must attend Davis Senior High School three of the six semesters of the 10th, 11th and 12th grade years if they want to graduate from Davis Senior High. One of these semesters must be the one immediately prior to their graduation.
It is possible to graduate a year or semester early if all graduation requirements are fulfilled. Students should obtain a petition and discuss this with a counselor.
